District News

Good Morning,

I stated at the Buckeye Board of Education Meeting last Tuesday evening, that I will to continue to give families as much information as possible as the the date to make decisions about the Virtual Academy approaches.  The deadline for submitting applications to the Virtual Academy is Friday, August 14th at 12:00 a.m. The administrators have been working with our teachers to identify the most effective ways that we can utilize our staff to meet the needs of our students who have selected the Virtual Academy option. You will receive information on Tuesday about the specific classes that will be available for students. At this point we have determined that we will not need a third party company to instruct our students and ALL classes offered will be taught by Buckeye Local Schools teachers. Families who have already submitted the Virtual Academy form should have received a confirmation email last Friday, August 7th. If you did not receive that email then please check your junk or spam folder and if you still do no see the confirmation email then contact you child's principal. At the Primary School for the next several weeks that will Amy Doty(adoty(at)buckeyeschools.org).  Below you will find the Virtual Academy Form link:

Buckeye Local Schools

Good Morning,

The Buckeye Local Schools Board of Education approved the 2020 Fall Reopening Plan last evening at a special board meeting. I would like to thank all of the members who served on the School Reopening Committee for their hard work and dedication in developing this plan. We realize this plan will not satisfy everyone. However, please know it was developed with the safety of students and staff as our primary guiding principle. You can locate the plan on the Buckeye Local Schools' web page and it is linked below:

Buckeye Local Schools 2020 Fall Reopening Plan

This plan should provide the district with flexibility to meet our ongoing needs throughout the school year.  While the plan was approved, what has not been determined as yet is exactly what phase will be in effect at the start of school. Currently since we are at the red risk level, the plan states we would start with remote learning for all students and would remain remote for at least 14 days after we return to risk level yellow or orange.

Below are a few reminders:

August 31, 2020, First Official School Day

Transportation Forms are due on August 14

Transportation Opt-In Form

Transportation Opt-Out Form

Virtual Academy Signup Deadline is also August 14

Virtual Academy Option Form

The Virtual Academy is a semester commitment. We are in the process of cross-referencing students' schedules at the HS and JH. This is to determine how staff can be utilized to provide classes for students in the Virtual Academy and/or whether a third party company can possibly meet our needs for additional class offerings. If determine we need more time to develop the schedules for individual students, we will extend the deadline for the Virtual Academy sign-up if necessary.

More information on child care options from the Right at School Organization will be relayed soon.

I realize that everyone is struggling to make difficult decisions during this very uncertain time. I will continue to communicate with families to provide as much information as possible so you can make the best decision possible for your family. As always if you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Dawn Kochanek, Acting Superintendent
